Critical Analysis Of The Ambush Marketing Events Media Essay The early days of sports marketing, during the 1950s and 1960s, witnessed a significant growth in sponsorship deals and those wanting to be sponsors, but during this period anyone who wanted to become a sponsor could organize some sort of deal. Accordingly, everyone was welcome and the varying levels of competition that existed meant that there was no need to ever ambush an event. The problem with this open access model was that it did not provide sufficient funds to host major sporting events and, in particular, the Olympic Games. By the late 1970s the International Olympic Committee (IOC) had serious financial problems. This meant that it was difficult to attract bids; indeed only Los Angeles bid for the 1984 Games. When Juan Antonio Samaranch took over as president of the IOC in 1980 he took a decision which transformed the finances of the Olympics and started a revolution in sports marketing. He introduced global sponsorship and broadcasting rights. This revolution was consolidat ed by Peter Ueberroth, president of the Organising Committee for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, who instituted three categories of sponsor: official sponsor, official supplier and official licensee. What Samaranch and Ueberroth had done was to introduce exclusivity as a central pillar of sponsorship deals. This meant that sponsors knew that if they entered a sponsorship deal they could get the benefits of association with the Games and the exclusion of their competitors. The strategy was very successful that the Los Angeles Games actually generated an extra as have consequent Games. But a side effect of this strategy was that the excluded competitors took steps to be associated with the Games without paying any sponsorship fee. Ambush marketing was born. Ambush marketing is a marketing campaign that takes place around an event but does not involve payment of a sponsorship fee to the event. For most events of any significance, one brand will pay to become the exclusive and official sponsor of the event in a particular category or categories, and this exclusivity creates a problem for one or more other brands. Those other brands then find ways to promote themselves in connection with the same event, without paying the sponsorship fee and without breaking any laws. The Olympic Games are one of the most effective international marketing platforms in the world, reaching billions of people in over two hundred countries and territories throughout the world. Support from the business community is crucial to the staging of the Games and the operations of every organisation within the Olympic Movement. 2Revenue generated by commercial partnerships accounts for more than forty percent of Olympic revenues  and partners provide vital technical services and product support to the whole of the Olympic  Family. Each level of sponsorship entitles companies to different marketing rights in various regions, category exclusivity and the use of designated Olympic images and marks.  [3]  Some corporations paid a multi-million dollar fee for the right to be part of The Olympic Partner (TOP) program. The TOP program, managed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), grants sponsors the exclusive worldwide marketing rights in their product categories for both the Winter and Summer Games. (The following companies are TOP Partners for the Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 Olympic Games: Coca-Cola, Acer, McDonalds, Omega, Panasonic, and Samsung). Others will look for join their companies with the Olympics and capitalize on the attendant good will without authorization of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or payment of the mandatory sponsorship fees. This is generally referred to as ambush marketing.  [4]  This part will recognize the Olympic organizations that own and use the Olympic G ames intellectual property, how ambush marketing has been employed and challenged at prior Olympic Games and at the London Games, and the legal and ethical issues surrounding ambush marketing. The main question is the ambush marketing a legal or an illegal activity? Sport sponsorship is big business. The event owners need a huge amount money because of they try to collect the best sponsor for their sports event. The major competitions are good advertisement for the companies as well. The ambushers, those company who could not pay the expensive fees or just do not want to pay, are result huge risk for every single organizer and for the official sponsors. 5Despite the potentially large impact of the legal regulation of ambush marketing, financially and on fundamental freedoms, it is still not clear what constitutes ambush marketing. All forms of ambush marketing are bad? From the event owners point of view the ambush marketing is the worst thing ever because it threatens their ability to keep top-paying sponsors. In the same way, for the official sponsors ambush marketing is unwelcome because it increases the risk to their deal. The ambushers point of view that ambush marketing is an important commercial instrument and a natural result of free competition. Outside the sporting context ambush marketing is perfectly legitimate marketing activity. Everybody can find a lot of ambush marketing advertisements on the internet. As for the sport events, we find that ambush marketing has had some decent supporters over the years. For the reason that ambush marketing has not got a workable definition which is accepted by both of the branches. Th ere islegitimate ambush marketing. The main supporting companies such as Pepsi, Nike, Adidas, Subway, Fuji, Kodak, Wendys and Qantas have all engaged in it. Many companies who opposed ambush marketing for events which they officially sponsored have occupied in the practice themselves at other events. Before we would start to collect the arguments for and against ambush marketing in bigger deepness, it is important to mention a few well-known examples. 6The American Express advertising campaign in the Visa-sponsored 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics featured the perfect slogan If you are travelling to Lillehammer, you will need a passport, but you dont need a visa! 7Qantas Airlines 2000: Ansett was the official airline partner of the Sydney Olympic Games. Qantas ran a marketing campaign in the lead-up to the Games that included advertisements featuring Olympic athletes such as Cathy Freeman and using expressions such as we welcome the spirit of competition and Australia wide Olympic sale. More Australians believed that Qantas was a sponsor of the 2000 Olympics, rather than Ansett. 8In 1996 Olympics Games, Linford Christie arrived wearing the incredible electric blue contact lenses with a white Puma logo in the centre of each lens. Officially the Reebok was main sponsor of this Games. 9Pringles, Wimbledon Tennis Grand Slam, 2009: The Pringles chips are wrapped into a longish cylinder which is typical and well know thing as how the tennis balls are distributed. This trend was started by Australia when it had to defend the Sydney Olympic Games, the next one was South Africa in relation to the Cricket World Cup, and later the UK in relation to the London 2012 Olympic Games, and in recent times, New Zealand which last year introduced legislation aimed at protecting any major event. Such legislation often gives government ministers the power to state that key words will be protected. For example, Canadian legislation covering the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver will strictly limit people from using generic words such as winter, Vancouver, 2010 and games.  [13]  Despite this The Subway tried to snake out from the law. The McDonalds states it is more than enough that everybody thinks the Subway representative Phelps is the face of the Olympic Games. And the McDonalds did not make a mistake with this. 14The London Olympic Games and Paralympics Games Act 2006 contains almost the same provisions to protect the typical Olympic words such as Gold, London, summer, Games and 2012. There are two lists of protected words. If the marketers will use any two of the A list words they will breach the rules. Also if they would like to use in their campaign one A listed with one or more B listed. As for me I am sure that the ambushers can get pass these lists of words.  [15]  Moreover, the Secretary of State can add to the list by order. The law states that any person who is not certified to make an image that may create an association between that person or company and the London Olympic Games in the mind of the public will be in fall foul of the Act. Further protection was added by the Olympic Symbol etc. (Protection) Act 1995 (the 1995 Act). (Rather than sign up to the Nairobi Treaty) In addition, legislation has been passed to provide added protection to the elements that comprise the Ol ympic brand, and the brand as a whole. This is the London Olympic Games and Paralympics Games Act 2006 (the 2006 Act). This Act gives the Games organizers (event owners) the power to award licence to official sponsors to use the symbols, words and logos of the event. Some governments have progressed to criminalise the ambush marketing. For the reason that South Africa organized the Cricket World Cup in 2003 it was the first who stated that ambush marketing a criminal offence when it introduced anti-ambush marketing legislation.  [16]  It has repeated in New Zealand when they ratified the Major Events Management Act 2007 for a World Cup. Although this new law was created with the 2011 Rugby World Cup in mind, it is not specific to that event. 17Can we seriously call the ambush marketing activity as a criminal action? I do not believe so.. 18My arguments against a ban on ambush marketing consist in answering three key questions. (I based my arguments on Pà ©ter Berkes professors statements) Does a ban on ambush marketing benefit the economy? Almost in all of the other sector of the economy ambush marketing is an acceptable practice which support the competition. Banning it would constitute a major control of trade and, by benefiting a few main companies at the expense of many others, could well be anti-competitive. The fact is that major sporting events typically give grow to a large amount of business opportunities across the wider economy. Which are the normal borders of the ambush marketing? How far can the anti-ambushers go? Ambush marketing has got a lot of forms. I have already mentioned a few examples. Many sports events have in recent years been staged without the same protection, for example, the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2008 European Cup in Austria and Switzerland, the 2010 European Swimming Championship in Hungary, so it is obviously possible to finance and stage a successful major sporting event without that strict anti-ambush legislation. Does existing law effectively protect the legitimate interests of sponsors? The authorized sponsors already have intellectual property and unfair competition laws. Any symbols or logos particularly for a major sports event can be protected, by intellectual property especially by trademark or copyright. Unfair competition laws are turn up where a company connect in misleading or unreliable advertising. In summary we can say there is a small line between smarter marketing and breaking the strict rules. Unless the courts clear decision or any legislation, ambush marketing will continue and increase, even it is ethical or not, illegal or just simple a clever business practice. So called parasite marketing by its critics, claiming that companies are on purpose looking for easier ways to win on their rivals sponsorship of major sport events. Supporters of ambush marketing including me as well see it as smart business. I mean all of those rules, guidelines are important to protect the official sponsors, and the sport need these sponsors, because they are very essential according to the sport financial. Events like an Olympic Games and a World Cup are incredibly expensive to put on, so they need big-money sponsors and this in turn means that the organisers must protect hardly against ambush marketing. But it is true as well that ambush marketing makes available a positive free market. B y exposing to authorized sponsors and event owners the true scope of exclusivity that any sponsor can reasonably suppose to enjoy, ambushers in effect help count the true market value of Olympic sponsorship while participating in the marketing attack in a way they think most cost effective for their company. As it looks like very well to possible sponsors of future major sports events that event organizers will not be able to stop all ambush marketing efforts, this should be a reason that is accounted for in determining the fees to be paid for an executive sponsorship. Piggy was the most technical and constructional boy in his group. Piggy represented technology, which must be built upon the basis of order of civilization. Under Ralph’s unstable rule, Piggy’s words were not listened. Because things that directly affect their daily life, such as safe food and concern of monster, were more important than hopes to be rescued, people overlooked Piggy’s opinions. Under barbarian society, technology was never used for its adequate purpose. When power takes over order, Piggy was abused frequently, for he was not an important source of dictator’s interest. Piggy frequently argued about Jack’s decisions, and, someday, Piggy would harm dictator’s position, with his practical methods to be rescued. First of all, Piggy had many useful items and smart idea to use them wisely for everyone. His glasses were the only method to make signal to outside of the island. He guaranteed warm, safe night and food as well. While superstitious rumor were merged from each boy, Piggy suggested another signal on the beach. By his death, he remembered his initial goal, to be rescued, while other boys were fallen in the lawless human nature. His actions were not only for himself, but also for everyone. As being a vestige of lost human civilization, he tried to remind boys the hope of being rescued, and to be organized. However, Piggy’s opinions were not convincing to uncivilized boys, who wanted plans that can make improvements in their lives immediately, but not a preparation that would gradually lead them toward better outcome. Second of all, Piggy had no leadership, because he was physically not appealing, and was not clever enough to send his messages explicitly. He had no interest in playing with other boys, so he did not have any friend, who could support his opinion. He spoke out his opinion regardless of others’ when something does not work in his mind. Most of conversations Piggy had were scolding others, like adult disciplining children. Having anything that would return other boy’s minds, Piggy became an irritant to other boys. Later, he was disregarded by other boys. Therefore, as he was disregarded, his saying also had only a little power. If only he showed his politeness and diligence like an adult, boys would have relied on Piggy. Last of all, Piggy developed plots by making a new topic in the group. In this report, researcher will be answering two different questions from the assignment. First, the researcher will discuss and suggest some feasible application considerations when developing a new product development strategy for Google Glass. The information which included will be elaborated and discuss with examples. Next question, researcher will illustrate how Google Glass better manage innovation within the organization to stay ahead of its competitor in the industry? Question 1 Discuss and suggest some feasible application considerations when developing a new product development strategy for Google Glass. Market Analysis The new product development strategy is the strategies in spite of evidence of its success. In new product development, researcher found that many managers hesitate to establish a policy for new product development said by (C.M.Crawford, 1972). The new product development strategy is the first stage need to be done on a company before they launch a new product to the market. In the other hand, there are basic steps need to include in the new product development steps there are concept, ideation, design, test, and release. Due to the research, the benefit after implement those steps to a new product development lead the company to the profits increasing. For Google glass, first the concept need to be define clearly and considerations need to be concern for the new product development. Next market strategy will be market analysis because there are several points need to be analyzing in the market analysis such as target market, market opportunity, and market segmentation. Target market is the main group of user that been targeted who will be using the product which is the Google Glass. In this step, researcher need to understand how to target and what should him/her putting inside new product development strategy. Market segmentation is to differentiate the different type of market and identify which market is  having the most potential customer for the new developing product. The company then will target on that market and work on the new developing product. Other than that, market segmentation also ensure researcher know the market trends, size and growth. Researcher need to understand what the market needs first in the new product development. For example, Google glass provides questionnaire and interview questions to the public before them implements functions in the Google glass development. It is helps in keeping the customers instead of other competitors. They need to compete with other competitors by introducing their new technology and functionalities to launch in the market. They are well-gained company and have good reputation in the information technology market that enables their products are trusted and safe to use. Google glass named by Google Company itself because it made up of fiber glass and it has multiple functions and specifications that proved itself is a unique with all its functions. Google glass describe as multi-dimensional concept product because of it special features and quality specifications. It have has a 640 x 360 display, 5 Mega Pixel camera and able to record video with 720p HD function. Besides that, it also built-in with a 16GB flash memory which enables the users to save data into it such as video and photo. Other than that, it also builds in WIFI and Bluetooth adapter so it able to communicate with everyone while there are web-services available. In addition, pricing is also one of the concept of multi-dimensional product because the product must be in reasonable and affordable price so most of the users able to purchase it and boost the sales and profit of the company. The price will be around $ 1500 and even lower a little bit so it will be more attractive for users to purchasing it. The features of Google glass are capturing video and photos and it can send it online. Other than that, GPS also build in so user can easily see the direction while travelling or driving. It also allows users to messaging and it have charger to recharge while there is low battery. It is a smart device that is user friendly. Conclusion, the technology that used in Google Glass is the virtual reality. The users able to view the animation that been released by the glass and also the reality world through the glass. It brings many features that enable user to interact with the devices. Besides that, user can off the functionality of Google glass in case they don’t need any services and they can use it as a normal glass. Google glass is a direct interact device, user just need to activate or select services that they wanted so it can perform the task directly and efficiency. Conclusion As the researcher of this report, I would like to implements few considerations so it can helps on increase the sales and profit for Google Company. In the other hand, Google Company need considerate more on new product development before it launch to the market so users can give good reflection and opinions on Google’s product in future. Google needs to have Innovation management in which there is the discipline of managing processes in innovation which in turn can be used in the development of both product and organizational innovation. Innovation processes can either be pushed or pulled through development. Instead of just having some creative ideas and launching them, Google could also adopt some innovation styles as part of their innovation management. The majority of new product inventions are not successful. In Australia for instance, 95% of private inventions never reach the market (Walker, 2004). Google is evidently aware of this fact because most of its products do not fair well on the market or do not reach the market at all as they would have failed during the trial stages. It is needless to say that the high failure rate should not discourage companies from introducing new products because customers eventually lose interest in once popular products, particularly if competitors introduce more attractive products. Google is evidently aware of this fact due to the high rate of new products that they introduce onto the internet hence providing a vast diversity of products with the hope that one of them will succeed. This, however, says a lot about Google’s new product development strategy even though they have a lot of products. Looking at Google products and the way they do things it is apparent that Google hardly follows the proper steps in new product development this is why some of their products do not succeed. According to Elliot and  colleagues, (2008), there are seven recognised phases of the new product development process, namely; idea generation, screening, concept testing, business analysis, product development, test marketing and commercialisation. The ideas may emanate from internal or external sources. Internal sources include employees of the organisation while external sources are usually customers, competitors, advertising agencies, research organisations etc. The interview reveals that Google uses a lot of internal sources for their idea generation. These are important because they can identify organisational issues necessary for the development of the product. It is however, important to include customers in idea generation, ‘particularly in situations in which the customer personally carries out part of the service process.’ (Zeithaml et al, 2009). This is something that Google has turned a blind eye on. They fail to realise that in as much as they want to have cutting edge products, customers are the driving force to making the product cutting edge. Customers, hence, need to be part of the idea generation of a product not after the product has already been made public (as shown by the customer feedback system on the products in question). Therefore Google should continue to encourage a steady stream of new product possibilities from their engineers (internal source) while social networks could be used to dialogue with customers and get new ideas that way they do not neglect the external sources. In as much as Google’s product releases seems random, Haqlund et al (1995) would approve of the apparent confusion at Google as they believe that creativity involves improvisation, anarchy and internal  competition, which results in ‘both a planned process and a happening.’ Google does need a bit of organisation b y implementing the new product development process so as to keep their product development and releases in check. Idea screening refers to the analysis of product ideas in which the nature and wants of buyers are assessed. No idea screening is done by Google they just do it, the engineers just give suggestions around a particular idea and they take the suggestion and incorporate it into the given idea and start working on it without top management approval and without proper screening of the idea to see if it is indeed feasible and or appropriate and whether or not it will be accepted on the market after it has been lunched. This increases the probability of developing something that the customer does not need. They might want it and go for it as soon as it is launched but after a short period of time the user realises that they do not need the product and hence the life span of that product is shortened. Now if Google had to screen their ideas before hand (as shown in Image 4) then some of their products would have been successful or would not have been launched at all because there are some products that Google has that are just not necessary. Now judging from what the interviewee said about some engineers who get tired of working on the same task, it is of paramount importance to once again highlight the need for customer’s input as they function as a fresh set of eyes. Customers will look at the same product in a different way and be able to suggest something new that can be done. Concept testing involves presenting the idea to a sample of potential customers which enables the company to test potential customers’ reactions before the product can be launched on a large scale. Where Beta Testing and Market Testing is concerned Google does; however, use this strategy on some of its products. Google has decided to test the product by sending it to a few people and allowing those people to invite their friends to use it by giving the user a certain number of invites and with each person that installs it the invites issued are increased. This is a good strategy because not only does Google get feedback on how to improve RockMelt but they also know by the number of people that install it and invite others whether or not it will be a success if launched officially. If Google were to implement this strategy on a substantial amount of products then it would be easier to know which products to keep and launch on a larger scale as well as which products to scrap off. According to the interview with Marissa Mayer, they did the same thing with Gmail by sending invites to people to use Gmail and because of that Gmail is now widely used by many and hence became and still is a success. It now competes with other email services such as Hotmail and Yahoo! RockMelt now has the chance to become better than Google Chrome as well as other internet browsers since it is still in its testing phase. At the test marketing stage, the product is released in limited quantities, to test customer reactions while reducing the risk of product failure. Product failure could lead to the company’s loss of credibility which is not the case with Google since it is well known that people still try out Google products regardless of their failure. At the commercialisation phase modifications are made based on the test marketing findings. Full scale marketing is then done. In the internet industry, gradual marketing may allow competitors to quickly enter the same target market with similar products. Google is apparently not too concerned about this prospect hence Google Labs. Therefore in as much as Google has employed the strategy of just dumping their products with the hope of at least one success, they can have a more organised strategy whereby there is guarantee of at least majority success rather than minority success. Question II In this highly competitive online environment, illustrate how Google better manage innovation within the organization to stay ahead of its competitor in the internet industry? Google needs to have Innovation management in which  there is the discipline of managing processes in innovation which in turn can be used in the development of both product and organizational innovation. Google will need to allow managers and engineers to cooperate together knowing the goals and the processes of the development of a new product. Google can make sure that the main focus of innovation management is to allow response to external as well as internal opportunities in which creative efforts to introduce new ideas are used (Kelly, and Kranzburg, 1978). What Google needs to do now is to trigger and deploy the creative juices of the engineers towards the continuous development of the products. The process that they can adopt can be that of an evolutionary integration of strategy, technology and operations (Tidd et al, 2009) because successful innovation management is naturally multi-functional and matches a deep understanding of user needs and wants to a unique technical ability hence the integration of customer ideas as well as engineer’s ideas (as seen in Image 6). A pushed process is based on existing or newly invented technology, that the organization has access to, and tries to find profitable applications to use this technology (Trott and Paul, 2005). It is evident that Google does adopt the push concept but not for all products. If Google is to be ahead in the internet industry they are to make sure that the products that have made it are continuously developed one of the ways in which Google can do this is to go ahead with the idea of merging some products together to make one product. A pulled process tries to find areas where customers’ needs are not met, and then focus development efforts to find solutions to those needs (Trott and Paul, 2005). Instead of trying to compete with existing products in the industry by deploying a new product that is identical or has similar functions, Google must use their customer feedback system to get ideas on what the customers need so that they bridge the gap and hence their products become more successful. In order to achieve this Google also needs to have a team that has both engineers as well as  marketers who are in touch with the customer needs so that both the technically creative things can work hand in hand with the customer requirements hence producing a successful product which inturn places Google ahead of its competitors. In order to stay ahead of its competitors in the internet industry Google needs to make sure that the products that they are offering online are valuable and meet the need of the customer. If the customer has a better alternative to that being offered by Google they will leave the Google product and go the product offered by the competitor and hence the failure of a Google product. With the encouragement of new products at Google, they should make sure that the new products are indeed new and relevant, such as Google Docs where people can create spreadsheets as well as develop surveys, etc. This is a need for anyone who goes online and it is very convenient and hence in that area Google will probably remain the lead. Therefore the product characteristics meet the customer needs and are an advantage over competing products with technological sophistication (Zeithaml et al, 2009). Even though their engineers may feel tired of doing the same thing they should still maintain the existing products that have been successful so that they remain successful. This is because innovation is a continuous process. It does not end at the market acceptance but the product has to be continuously improved. Therefore Google should have strategy characteristics in which there are dedicated human resources to support the initiative as well as dedicated research and development focused on the new product initiative (Zeithaml et al, 2009). Just as they continue to improve the search engine, they should also seek to improve Gmail so that it does not just compete with Hotmail and Yahoo but should actually be better than them. Free Response about the Amistad – History Informal Essay Free Online Research Papers Free Response about the Amistad History Informal Essay The Amistad Case can be easily seen as a case about 53 Africans taken from their homes, put on the Tecora taken to Cuba, and from there placed on the Amistad where the mutiny began. The Case itself has a sort of allegory; one story being a group of Africans being held for murder in the supreme court, while all along igniting the wood that started the fire for people to open their eyes to the world around them. The hided story is how the Amistad became the bases or the foundation of just about anything that happen after the case. Proven through discussions and research the Amistad Case can be related to an array of situations. The Amistad Case opened the world to the fact that Slavery is very much alive. Slavery doesn’t necessarily mean physically enslaved but, you can be economically enslaved, and mentally enslaved as well. The Amistad Case itself dealt with so many different issues than what was on the surface. OK it talked about slavery, great we got that, but if we go deeper then what. You learn that the Case hit Natural Rights, put â€Å"God† in question, attacked treaties previously made prier to the case, The Constitution of the U.S., Checks and Balances, and Morality. Questions such as â€Å"Are Blacks people?†, â€Å"Should Blacks be considered equal?†, â€Å"it’s slavery a necessary sin?†, â€Å"Can the President toy with the Justice system?†, â€Å"What is right and wrong?†, â€Å"Were our forefathers right when writing the constitution?†, etc. The legal and political issues during this case were intertwined together. The fact that election time was right around the corner during the whole case led to some â€Å"fooling around† by the president. Martin Van Buren was not necessarily supporting his opinion in this case. He knew that this case was the one thing every president dreaded right before elections. Van Buren did not want to be the president in office that would be remembered as the Man in Office when the United States was spilt into North and South. Van Buren had to make sure this case went his way. He changed the Judge in the District Court of Connecticut to a younger Judge, in hopes to manipulate him, this obviously put Checks and Balances into question. After the new judge (Andrew T. Judson) decided that the Africans should be returned to Africa, shortly after, an appeal was called to the Supreme Court to handle this case again. William Holabird was arguing that the Africans should be returned to Ruiz and Montez; while Baldwin was arguing that the Africans were never property to begin with and therefore the Treaty of 1795 (Pinckney’s Treaty) would not apply. Lt. Gedney claimed salvage on the Amistad under the Pinckney Treaty, stating he risked his life to save the ship. Religion was a big aspect during the Amistad Case. Many abolitionists for explain were trying to inflict the people morally and through their hearts than battling in the court system. John C. Calhoun stated slavery as â€Å"a good sin† and was necessary for life. This is leading to economical slavery being enforced onto people. Calhoun was making it quite clear that this Case would be the spark to the war between the north and south. Abolitionists didn’t really care of the safety of the Africans, their purpose was much greater, they were there for a sacrifice; similar to Jesus. Abolitionists and Calhoun even though were on different â€Å"sides† used religion as their method to reach to people. There were some important people that need to get mentioned in order to show I know who’s who. Cinque is obviously the â€Å"leader† of the Africans aboard the Amistad. Coming from West Africa Cinque’s motive to return home was to be with his family. Roger Sherman Baldwin was the lawyer in the Amistad’s defense. Baldwin spent most of his time trying to show that the Africans aboard the Amistad were born in Africa and not on a slave trading felicity. Baldwin’s motives were clearly money and recognition. Mr. Justice Story was the justice from the Supreme Court that gave the opinion of the court; while Mr. Justice Baldwin gave the dissented of the court (which was only himself). James Covey and Charles Pratt were the two translators found by the professor at Yale, Josiah W. Gibbs, to help Baldwin communicate with the Africans. William Holabird was the U.S. district attorney in Connecticut claiming that the Africans should be turned over to the custody of the United States. Lt. Gedney was aboard the Washington (a U.S. Naval boat) claiming salvage on the cargo within the Amistad. John Q. Adams was an abolitionist who helped Baldwin in the Supreme Court to have the Africans returned back to Africa. Martin Van Buren was the President at the time of the case. Van Buren tried to interfere with the Judicial Branch to make sure the out come of the case benefited him. The Aftermath of the Amistad is even more important than the case itself. Simply because of the events that followed. The Civil War has a direct correlation with the Amistad case; why if this case was never brought up a Civil War may have never of happened in America. Segregation was a form of mental slavery connected with the Amistad Case, subconsciously people separated into their own cliques or groups. The Case may have been about breaking of treaties and doing things illegal, but those aren’t important. The Amistad case opened the doors for further cases to go to trial. This case alone did not end the institution of slavery, but it sure help to get there. Now we all should know that the Africans were able to go back home, but not all of them left to go back to West Africa; only 35 went. Martin Van Buren did not win the election he had hoped to win, even after the effort he put in to manipulate the Judicial System. The Amistad case led to economical slavery. Why after the C ivil War people of a race (other than white) were enslaved to certain jobs, low wages, etc.; granted this is a generalization. Not to mention Slavery was the true motive for new technology, why if you own 10 slaves and technology made it so a certain machine requires 2 slaves. What do you do with the other 8? You get more land for more slaves to use those machines. The need for more slaves was a definite yes, seeing as though plantation owners wanted more money. This led people to being economically enslaved while physically enslaving to do so. This may seem as too far of a starch but the Amistad case had an impact on being a child. The need for someone to guide you, or â€Å"control† you is mental enslavement. I guess about anything can relate to the Amistad case. Well for being my first time doing this I’m not sure how good or bad it is (whatever that is). The importance of interprofessional collaboration has taken precedence since the second-half of the twentieth century, with several studies confirming that the practice improves communication and respect among health care staff for easier (Dreyer, Forde, & Nortvedt, 2011; Gillespie et al, 2010; Fisher, 2010; Wolf, 2012). These values are a priority in the effective delivery of services (Sandahl, 2010; Burke, & Doody, 2012). Interprofessional collaboration is important to the realization of success in training, leadership and execution of duties (Fothergill et al, 2011). Kirschling, and Erickson (2010) note that this helps to improve the predilection of health care staff to adopt quality and innovativeness in their services, regardless of the challenges in a busy health care facility. Chan et al (2010) suggested that interprofessional practice advances activities that support accessible care; promotes interprofessional training among all care experts during their training and throughout their occupation; promotes effective partnership between nurses and physicians and other care providers in ensuring quality care within the industry. Culley and Polyakova-Norwood (2012) indicate that the most effective strategy for implementing interprofessional collaboration is by integrating such programs in training facilities. In light of this, I managed to work in a team of diverse professionals in the course of this module. The purpose of this module was to strengthen the participants’ skills in preparation for the real-life work. In the United Kingdom, for example, health care trainees such as nurses are being taken through effective collaborative programs, purposely to build their interpersonal skills (Curran et al, 2010). Under the program, nurse trainees have been able to acquire vital skills on how to be proactive in disease prevention and management measures as opposed to being excluded from major decisions involving the patients Gillespie et al, 2010). McCloughen, Gillies, and O'Brien (2011) indicate that IPE enables trainee nurses to respond to health care needs of their patients in a collaborative approach. According to Mills et al (2010), interprofessional collaboration enables student nurses to have effective training on the best practices that are vital to the care facility, especially for those working in far-flung areas. I will now proceed to explore my experiences whilst participating as a member of a team during this module. The environment where the interprofessional training took place was adequately prepared. With participants organized into lean working teams comprising 11, we managed to achieve the best out of it all. This success can be attributed to the organization of the student s into manageable teams that are comparable to the effective working teams in the actual workplace environment. International Law and Protection of the Children - Dissertation Example Despite the international legal framework for the protection of children in humanitarian crises and armed conflict, the UN reports that children in the millions are often targets of armed conflicts in various ways. In this regard children are either victims in part of a more general attack on civilians. Other children are subjected to sexual assaults and are simply deprived of substance therefore dying or suffering from starvation or disease. Some children are unlawfully forced to join the war effort or participated as combatants in humanitarian crises.4 It would therefore appear that international laws are inadequate for protecting children in humanitarian crises and armed conflict. This research study analyses the international legal framework for the protection of children in humanitarian crises and armed conflict and identifies the flaws which contribute to its general inadequacies. It is generally concluded that the enforcement of international law is problematic in that it requ ires cross-border cooperation for the collection of evidence and investigative purposes. Other problems such as the non-binding nature of international legal instruments on non-state actors and diverse ideologies relative to the definition of childhood also contribute to the inadequacy of international law in protecting children in humanitarian crises and armed conflict. It is also observed that the extent to which the state is prepared to intervene to protect children in large part depends on culture and norms. For example, China is less reluctant to override how adults, particularly parents treat their children as children are regarded as property. In Europe, the State is more willing to take the side of children over that of adults.5 It is also observed and argued that the extent to which states are committed to the protection of children is largely dependent on a state’s political and economic priorities and resources.
